Lady Jackets notch two wins during spring break week
The Mineola Lacy Jackets softball team scored a successful week during spring break with a win last Tuesday against Grand Saline in an away game and a win against Kemp on Mineola’s home field Thursday afternoon.
Mineola defeated Kemp Thursday 13-4 in a 6 ½ inning game. Sydnie Bell pitched the entire game. Coach Rheagan Penn said the team would be working on its defense but that everybody hit well. Bri McCalla got a triple that scored two runs.
In the Grand Saline game, Bell was also on the mound for the Lady Jackets.
“It was really a hard game for us,” Penn said of Mineola’s 10-7 win. “Grand Saline was district champs last year.”
Mineola scored one run each in the second, third and fourth innings, three in the sixth and four in the seventh.
She said that while the Lady Jackets were up 3, when Audrey Bush hit a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh, “that was really the highlight that kind of broke it open.”
Next on their schedule was Quitman’s Lady Bulldogs Tuesday, in Quitman, after Monitor presstime. Friday the Lady Jackets host the Lady Panthers.
