Sunday Market in Park draws crowd to Quitman
The first “Sunday Market in the Park” was a success with several hundred visitors making way to Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman Sunday.
The day began with Pastor Mike Midkiff and Faith Baptist Church members filling the pavilion for an inspiring “Praise in the Park” morning service. Vendors with a myriad of products were scattered throughout the park.
There were activities for young and old alike. Organizers Illa Wisdom and P.J. Kalenak hope the weekly event will grow to be a mainstay in Quitman at the park.
“We have a beautiful park and we need to use it to meet with our friends and hopefully make new friends,” Wisdom noted. “We are so happy with the first time being so successful. We really felt good about it and what the future will hold for us. We appreciate so much everyone who was a part of this one and we hope to continue to grow each week.”
Kalenak was also pleased with the turnout. “It was great to see everyone enjoying the day. Sometimes we just don’t take the time to visit with each other. I got to talk to old friends and meet new ones,” Kalenak said. “The vendors seemed to really enjoy being here and most had a successful day. We are looking forward to growing each week.”
The “Sunday Market in the Park” will be at Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman every Sunday afternoon with the market opening at 1 p.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
Wisdom and Kalenak are looking for area churches who want to have an 11 a.m. service prior to the opening of the market to get in touch with them and set up a date. Any church in the area is invited to be a part of Sunday service under the pavilion. To reserve a date, contact Kalenak at 903-571-8231 or Wisdom at 956-566-2961 for information.
