Sue Boyd Clemens 1941-2021

Sue Boyd Clemens, of Quitman, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021 in Lindale at age 79.

Graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021 at Quitman City Cemetery with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

Galia Sue Boyd Clemens was born in Quitman on Nov. 24, 1941 to Hoice Buford and Opal Authalia McDade Bright. She was a lifetime resident of Quitman and a member of Forrest Hill Baptist Church and the Pilot Club of Quitman. Sue married John D. Boyd on Nov. 15, 1958. Together they owned and operated Boyd’s Exxon Station and J&S Car Wash until his passing in 2004. She began working for Lowe Funeral Home in 2005 and retired in 2016. On Oct. 3, 2009 she married Mel Clemens. They were married almost 10 years before he passed away in 2019. 

Sue greets in Heaven her parents, Hoice and Opal Bright; first husband, John D. Boyd; second husband, Mel Clemens; brother, Troy H. Bright; and sister, Norma Lea Blalock.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barry Boyd and wife Donna of College Station and Kristi Hirsch of Quitman; siblings, Marinel Gilmore of Tyler and Jimmy Bright of Quitman; five grandchildren, Kacey Hirsch, Kayla Moore, Justin Hirsch, Sarah Boyd and Robert Boyd; four great-grandchildren, Brynnley, Penelope, Madison and Natalie; and many other extended family members and friends.
