Sanderson Farms’ plan to open its chicken feed mill in Mineola by the middle of November is proceeding on schedule, Mineola Economic Development (MEDC) Executive Director Mercy Rushing told board members on Oct. 3.
The $36 million Mineola project, which includes mill construction and railway extension, is part of a $200 million investment in the area by the nation’s third largest poultry producer. Sanderson Farm’s “poultry complex” also includes a hatchery in Lindale and a chicken processing plant in Winona.
The Mineola feed mill, which will be the first piece of the complex to open, is expected to produce as much as 8,200 tons of feed per week and employ a minimum of 35 people.
Rushing told board members that she expects the company to have a grand opening ceremony early next year after all its facilities are completed.
