Mineola’s Nathan Rojas took first place in the District 13-3A tournament in boys singles held last week in Quitman. Rojas took the boy’s singles competition and was the only Wood County athlete to win a first place medal at the district meet in a tournament that was dominated by Mount Vernon and Harmony.

Rojas earns lone top medal in district tennis
Mineola’s Nathan Rojas took first place in the District 13-3A tournament in boys singles held last week in Quitman. Rojas took the boy’s singles competition and was the only Wood County athlete to win a first place medal at the district meet in a tournament that was dominated by Mount Vernon and Harmony. Mineola’s Kaden Morris took fourth place and is an alternate to the region meet in boys singles.
In boys doubles Quitman’s Arturo Delgadillo and Luke Murphy came in third and will be an alternate to the region tournament. Mineola’s Buddy Ruffin and Hunter Wernecke were designated as alternates after a fourth place finish.
In girls singles, Quitman’s Brianna Baker will be an alternate after a fourth place finish at district.
Harmony placed first and second in girls doubles, first and third in girls singles, second in boys doubles, second and third in boys singles and third in mixed doubles. Chapel Hill placed first in boys doubles and first in mixed doubles.
The Region II Tournament will be at Tyler Junior College April 26-27. The top two finishers in each event advanced to region while third and fourth places are alternates.
