Republic Services retaining city’s trash contract
The city of Mineola has extended its contract for trash service with Republic Services of Kilgore for another five years.
The city council unanimously approved the extension on Monday, Nov. 25.
The new contract takes effect in July 2020.
Gene Keenon with Republic said the city and the company “just don’t have any problems here.”
He said Republic is not just a service company but wants to be more than that. As an example, the company recently made a $5,000 donation to the Mineola Nature Preserve.
Republic serves 27 cities in a region from the Louisiana state line to Canton and from Mount Pleasant to Nacogdoches.
The contract calls for three percent increases on the first three anniversary dates, which would put the next one at July 1, 2021.
It also calls for an annual $1,000 donation to the Mineola Main Street program. Republic is also known as Allied Waste Systems.
