The Winnsboro Red Raiders broke open a one-point game after three quarters with an 18-6 fourth quarter outburst to subdue Quitman 58-45. That put Winnsboro in third place and Quitman fourth heading into the playoffs.

The teams battled back and forth for three quarters and the score stood 40-39 with Winnsboro leading.

The Raiders went on a 9-0 run to start the quarter, and the Bulldogs could not overcome the 49-39 deficit.

Quitman took an early 5-4 lead on Landon Richey’s bucket and free throw after being fouled two minutes into the game. The Bulldogs extended their lead on a bucket and a triple by Brady Floyd to 14-9, but Winnsboro closed out the quarter with a pair of short jumpers to cut the lead to 14-13.

After Winnsboro took a 15-14 lead early in the second quarter, Quitman’s Levi Thompson hit a triple and a  10-foot jump shot followed by a three-point shot by Thomas Sabedra making the score 22-15 with 5:45 to go in the half.

The Raiders scored nine consecutive points to take a 24-22 lead when Payton Sapp banked in a triple giving the Bulldogs a 25-24 edge. Winnsboro ended the half with a bucket giving them a 26-25 lead.

In the third quarter, the teams continued to trade buckets with neither team gaining more than a three-point advantage. Sapp hit a pair of triples with the last one tying the game at 37-37. A Winnsboro triple made it 40-37, but Quitman fought back on a put back bucket by Garin Kisinger leaving the score 40-39.

That led to the final quarter when the Raiders got hot and made the 18-6 run leading to the 58-45 Winnsboro win.

Floyd led Quitman with 12 points while Sapp added 11 and Thompson and Richey each posted nine points.

Winnsboro will face the second place team from District 14-3A where Atlanta and Hooks are the top two teams. Quitman will face the winner of that district in a bi-district showdown.
