Quitman takes Big Sandy in three
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs raised their pre-district volleyball record to 5-2 with a three-set sweep at home over Big Sandy last Tuesday evening.
The Lady Bulldogs put away the Lady ‘Cats with set wins of 25-18, 25-18 and dominating 25-15 win in the final set.
“I was pleased with the girls’ performance tonight. I thought we served tough and offense is continuing to get stronger. We still have several areas to improve, but that is expected at this point in the season,” Head Coach Ashlee Lingo said.
Leading the way for Quitman were seniors Ava Burroughs, Brooklyn Marcee, Alexis O’Neal and Carley Spears. There was plenty of spark on offense with Burroughs and Brooklyn Marcee combining for 20 kills. Spears did a great job of setting up the front line with solid passes leading to 23 assists. Spears’ wicked left-handed serves accounted for six aces and added two blocks.
The stats were Burroughs 12 kills, two blocks; Spears 23 assist, six aces, five digs, two blocks; O’Neal eight digs, four aces; and Brooklyn Marcee seven kills, five digs.
