The Quitman Police Dept. answered 327 calls for service in July. The department issued 57 traffic citations and 51 traffic warnings, four criminal trespass warnings, made four warrant arrest and four on sight arrests.

July 9

Officer Joseph Gatewood, Chief John Farmer and Officer Joe Andrade were dispatched to the 700 block of East Side Drive for a dispute. Officers spoke to both parties and reported there was no physical violence. Officers advised both parties that the situation did not require a law enforcement response and to work out their problems calmly or to separate for a while. 

July 10

Officer Gatewood, traffic stop on Wells Rd. for expired registration. The driver, identified as Michael McCormick, was found to have four Quitman warrants, two for failure to maintain financial responsibility, one for expired registration and one for possession of drug paraphernalia. McCormick was transported to Wood County Jail and booked in for the warrants. He was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain financial responsibility and expired registration.

Officer Gatewood took a forgery report. The reporting person was one of the owners of Quitman Tool Rental in the 400 block of W. Bermuda St. Someone had forged withdrawal slips on their banks in Gilmer and Ore City. Gatewood contacted Gilmer and Ore City Police Departments and advised them that the reporting person would be contacting them to make forgery reports.

July 20 

Sgt. John Cooper was dispatched to UT Health Quitman emergency room in reference to a person who left the ER. Cooper located the subject identified as Christopher Hasten at the Texaco convenience store where he tried to assist him in getting home. While speaking with Hasten, he began using profanity in a public place. Cooper advised Hasten not to curse in public, but after several warnings Hasten continued and was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported to Wood County jail to be booked in. 

July 24

Officer Andrade arrested David Jenkins at Dollar General for public intoxication and transported him to the Wood County Jail to be booked in.

July 26

Sgt. Cooper, theft report from the Family Dollar where a female had set off the store anti-theft alarm. A description was given, and she was located by a Wood County sheriff’s deputy at the corner of Horton St. and Sissy Spacek Dr. Cooper went to that location and arrested Brittney Wade for theft less than $100 and transported her to Wood County Jail to be booked in.

July 28

Officer Andrade responded to the Family Dollar where a female later identified as Emily Sigrist locked herself in the restroom and had drank a whole bottle of wine. Andrade arrested Sigrist for public intoxication and transported her to Wood County Jail to be booked in.
