Quitman plans a hometown Christmas

Posted

Saturday, Dec. 12 Quitman welcomes the holiday season with events throughout the afternoon around the downtown square.

Activities include carriage rides for $5, a snowball area, an ugly sweater contest and pictures with Santa at Bella Floral.

Vendors will be set up from 3-8 p.m. with a variety of goods and gifts.

The parade goes off at 4:15 p.m. followed by a tree lighting ceremony for the new tree on the courthouse square at 5:30 p.m.

The elementary school choir will perform at 6 p.m. followed by special entertainment at 6:30 and a cake walk at 7 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs and enjoy the events.

Vendor spaces are $20 for an 8x8 space, and registration forms are available from the Quitman Chamber of Commerce and may be dropped off at the Speakeasy Coffee Shop, which also has parade registration forms.

The Christmas tree will be a new addition, purchased with almost $2,500 in donations through a GoFundMe campaign.

It is a 25-foot artificial tree along with decorations.

The fundraising came together quickly in early November to get the tree ordered in time for the holiday event.
