Quitman Library Connections
Over the next two weeks, 360° Painting of Tyler will be giving the exterior a facelift. Quitman Public Library is one of the most unique structures in Quitman, and now it will be even more eye-catching, with contributions and funding by The Quitman Public Library Memorial Fund, Quitman Economic Development Corporation, City of Quitman and Michelle Davidson, owner of 360° Painting of Tyler.
Friends of the Quitman Public Library meets 2nd Tuesdays at noon. The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 14, so come and expect a lucky treat. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
The Quitman Garden Club meets at 2 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday (except July and August) at the library. On Tuesday, March 14, 2023, the club will tour Bob Wells Nursery at Sorelle Farms owned by Ed and Rachel Donnelly. This Wood County nursery specializes in fruit and nut trees. The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on each 2nd Monday at 7 p.m. at the library. Contact Shirley Patrick 903-312-8451 for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
Knitting and crochet instruction class happens each Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring supplies and join the group for free instruction.
Adult GED® exam support service is available at the library. The program is online, and students can register at www.ged.com. There is a monthly subscription that must be paid by each student to access the preparatory study questions for the following separate exams: mathematical reasoning, reasoning through language arts, social studies and science. Certified instructors are available at the library to offer assistance and guidance.
Wood County Metal Detector Club is all about metal detecting and historical research in Wood and surrounding counties. If interested in digging in the dirt and finding things, join the meeting on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the library.
The In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas meets on the last Monday of each month in the library community room. Join the club and network with other photographers, share ideas, and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop.
Lost in the Woods Painters meet on 2nd Saturdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on the following months: January, March, May, July, September and November. Call 903-763-8353 for meeting confirmation.
Library cards are available at no cost for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
