Friends of the Quitman Public Library invite new members to join them for National Friends of Libraries Week. During Oct. 17-21, libraries across the country recognize Friends for their dedication to the growth of public libraries. For the remainder of the month, membership dues will be waived, so now is the time to join. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 8 at noon in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room.

Don’t miss the FOL Fall Book Sale to be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 through Friday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Call for more information 903-763-4191.

During October, the library is celebrating several events and highlighting each with displays of books, movies, audiobooks and eBooks. Near the checkout area is a display of books arranged by the QPL staff to highlight Women’s History Month and Halloween. 

October is “TeenTober,” a nationwide celebration that promotes teen services in the library as well as online for those 12-18 years to “Read for the Fun of It!” Stop by and check out our newest fall arrivals.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers, historians and storytellers to join them and work together on your genealogical tree. The society will meet on Monday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at the library. Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that meets every 4th Monday in the community room. The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 28. Meet other photographers, share ideas, and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available in the computer area at the library on Wednesdays to assist with reading/writing skills and math.
