During October, the Quitman Public Library is celebrating several events and highlighting each with displays of books, movies, audiobooks and eBooks.

Near the checkout area is a display of books arranged by the staff to highlight Women’s History Month and Halloween.

October is “TeenTober,” a nationwide celebration that promotes teen services in the library as well as online for those 12-18 years to “Read for the Fun of It!” Stop by and check out our newest fall arrivals.

Visit our webpage at www.quitmanlibrary.org and link to our online display of e-books celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). The Libby® link will also connect you to a vast collection of e-books, audio books and streaming video.

National Family History Month, which is observed annually during October, has grown and evolved since its 2001 origin in Congress. The library along with the Wood County TX Genealogical Society invite family researchers, historians and storytellers to commemorate their family’s rich and deep history this month by allowing us to assist with beginning your genealogical tree. The society will meet on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at the library. Contact Shirley Patrick 903-312-8451 for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites new members to join them for National Friends of Libraries Week. During Oct. 17-21, libraries across the country recognize Friends for their dedication to the growth of public libraries. The group will meet Oct. 11 at noon and will be planning the FOL Fall Book Sale set for the first week of November. Light refreshments will be served. Officers for FY23 are Tonia Nix – president, Carley Tucker – vice-president, Susan Lomanto – secretary and Rebekah Yeager – treasurer.

Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that meets every 4th Monday in the library’s community room. The next meeting is Monday, Oct. 24. Meet other photographers, share ideas and participate in photography-related events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available at the library on Wednesdays to assist with reading/writing skills and math. Keep current at www.quitmanlibrary.org and www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
