July is National Anti-boredom Month, and the library offers plenty of summer reads and movies to keep you entertained. A new shipment of large print books has arrived and ready to be checked out. Visit the Summer Reads display near the front desk. Also, thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Quitman Public Library, we have added to our graphic novel collection. Graphic novels are stories written and illustrated in the style of a comic combining illustrations with text in a series of rectangular panels. The stories are fun to read for all ages.

In the lobby showcase is a display celebrating HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration on loan from Rebekah Yeager. Among the interesting items is a hand-knitted queen doll.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the library’s main lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Photographers of all levels are invited to the In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas every 4th Monday in the library community room. Meet other photographers, share ideas and participate in photography-related events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 meeting and workshop.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets each 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. at the library. The next meeting is July 18. Contact Shirley Patrick 903-312-8451for meeting confirmation, and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available at the library on Wednesdays to assist with reading/writing skills and math.
