The Quitman Public Library recognizes the “Dog Days of Summer” which refers to a time of particularly hot and humid weather occurring during the summer months of July and August. You are invited to stop by the library, cool off and check out the display near the front desk that celebrates these days of lethargy. For our youngest readers, find a book that has a “dog” book marker, and you win an ice cream cone courtesy of Quitman’s Sonic Drive-In.

It’s a Cookbook Sale. The Friends of the QPL are holding a Cookbook Sale from Aug. 24-Sep. 3 in the main lobby. Prices are reasonable and some of these are one-of-a-kind.

Looking for a place to hold your next event? The library offers a spacious community room with the latest technological needs as well as a kitchenette. For lease information, contact the front desk at 903-763-4191.

The library offers activities throughout the summer. Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that meets every 4th Monday at the library beginning at 5:30 p.m. Free knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and patterns to trade. The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will begin meeting in September on each 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. in the library community room. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Cancer Cysters and Breast Friends support group meets in the library’s community room on the last Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Call 903-850-3978 for more information.

Visit the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org where you can find the TexShare database of reference resources and the latest eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming video on OverDrive.

Library cards are free to those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary.
