Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During this month, the American Library Association unites with libraries in a national effort to ensure every child can sign up for their own library card. Quitman Public Library cards are available for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.

Learn more about OverDrive® and how you can connect to our vast collection of eBooks, audio books and streaming video by visiting the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org. There you will also find links to new e-books aimed for elementary-aged children. These virtual books are narrated in several languages. Also, check out the online TexShare Database that is loaded with invaluable and up-to-the-minute research tools and reference resources.

QPL Story Time is back and held each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Terri Bennett creates a fun-filled hour of reading, learning, crafts, games and special treats. The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled children of all ages. Upcoming: Sept.16 “Dinosaurs!” and making our own fossils. Special thanks to Peoples - Quitman for sponsoring QPL Story Time crafts.

Friends of the Library invites new members to join this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library. Friends meet for one hour at noon on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss book reviews, fundraisers, library programming and activities. Light refreshments are available, but it is OK to bring your own lunch.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Bring your patterns to swap with others.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet at Monday, Sept. 17, 2020 at 7 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for details and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Contact the library by phone at 903-763-4191, fax 903-763-2532, text 903-952-8305 or by email at quitmanlibrarian@gmail.com. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary.
