Quitman High School to offer engineering career path thanks to $368,000 grant
Quitman High School students will be able to obtain engineering-based industry certifications thanks to a grant of $368,000 the district has obtained.
The school board heard a presentation on what the grant will bring to the district last week.
QISD will create a new mechanical and aerospace engineering program of study with the grant, according to last Monday’s presentation.
The grant will be used to purchase technology such as advanced robot integration, augmented reality and virtual reality technology, mill and lathe simulator and work stations.
The district will be responsible for a 5% match or $18,422 plus grant writer fees of $42,000.
The board presented its monthly Top Dawg award to the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club for its support of the school district through student leadership programs and community initiatives such as the splash park and dog/park/walking trail.
During the student showcase, the new Bulldog Kindness Club at the high school was highlighted.
