The Quitman Bulldogs won one and dropped a pair at the Hughes Springs baseball tournament last week. The Bulldogs defeated DeKalb 8-6 Friday evening.

Quitman goes 1-2 in Hughes Spring tourney

The Quitman Bulldogs won one and dropped a pair at the Hughes Springs baseball tournament last week. The Bulldogs defeated DeKalb 8-6 Friday evening.

The Bulldogs erupted to a 7-1 lead after a five-run third inning and held off the Bears. Ford Tannebaum took the win for Quitman, allowing six runs and five hits while striking out nine.

Landon Richey, Carson Dickens, Justin Matthews and Hayden Cook each had RBI in the third.  Matthews led Quitman with 2-2 at the plate.

Queen City 6, Quitman 5

In an earlier Friday contest, Queen City bested the Bulldogs 6-5 with two runs scored on the final play of the game. A triple by a Queen City batter brought in two runs to give them the win. 

Mason Reynolds took the tough loss after pitching well and striking out eight Queen City batters. Reynolds and Ford Tannebaum each had a two-hit game as the Bulldogs had nine hits.

Harleton 12, Quitman 5

Quitman opened the tournament with a 12-5 loss to Harleton. The Bulldogs managed three hits, but four fielding errors cost them. Harleton scored 12 runs and Quitman scored their five all in the first two innings of the game.

Cody Hawley, Landon Richey and Reynolds each had one hit for Quitman. Ty Holland took the loss on the mound for Quitman.

Quitman gets back in the District 13-3A race Friday at home against Wood County rival Winnsboro at 6 p.m.
