Quitman firemen assist with lake recovery
Quitman firefighters were called to Lake Fork where a pick-up truck had slid into the lake during the icy conditions.
Quitman Fire Department (QFD) was called to assist the Coke-Pleasant Grove Fire Department Feb. 16 on FM 2966. Divers were able to remove the bodies of Joe Dell Henderson of Quitman and Mary Jan Dunham of Yantis.
Divers from the Quitman department were Zane Hradecky, August Walters and Colton Otto. The divers reported the new semi-wet suits the department just received were a great asset during the operation to remove the bodies to the surface. They reported when they got out of the water the new suits had kept them warm. The vehicle is still in the lake at this time.
The department also answered several calls on water leaks in the city and in the county. On Feb. 19, they worked traffic control at a one-vehicle crash on East Highway 154.
On Feb. 17, department personnel went to a “lift assist” at Holiday Villages where someone had fallen.
