After a great first quarter, the Quitman Bulldogs had knotted the score at 17-17 against state-ranked Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill, but it was not enough as the Red Devils went on to take a 79-46 district win.

The loss left Quitman with a 6-6 district 13-3A slate and 20-16 on the year, good enough to take the fourth playoff spot in the district. Chapel Hill finished first, Mineola second and Winnsboro third.

Things began to change in the second quarter as the Red Devils went on a 21-10 run to take a 38-27 lead. The Red Devils outscored Quitman in the second half 41-19 in a dominant performance.

For Quitman, Levi Thompson had 16 points and Brady Floyd 14. Floyd added seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were set to play the Hooks Hornets in Pittsburg Tuesday night in a bi-district match.

Last year, the Bulldogs beat a heavily favored Atlanta team to advance to the area round.

This time Quitman is taking on district 14-3A champion Hooks which is 26-5 on the year and finished district action at 11-1.

The Bulldogs’ 20 wins were the most in a season since 2014 when Quitman won district.
