QISD moves up optional masks
In a brief special school board meeting last week, Quitman Independent School District moved up the date for making facemask-wearing optional from April 1 to Monday, March 29.
The decision includes all outdoor and indoor school events, including regular classroom instruction.
Any teacher, employee or student will have the right to continue to wear their mask at all times if they choose to do so, according to the district.
The district had initially announced it would wait until April 1 to make a decision, after Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was removing the statewide mask-wearing mandate just prior to the district going on spring break March 8-12.
School districts were allowed to decide their policies locally.
