Wood County Sheriff’s Department activities for the past week included:

March 14 - Deputies were dispatched at 9:28 a.m. to Highway 182 in Alba on a possible burglary. The reporting party arrived at the location to find damage to several doors, a window and to a shed door. All of the rooms and closets had been rummaged through and a television was missing. The case has been forwarded to investigators.

Deputies were dispatched to County Road 2660 in Mineola at 9:57 a.m. on a burglary of a building call. The reporting party stated someone he knew had taken items from his barn and then sold them. The investigation is continuing.

At 12:38 p.m., deputies were dispatched to CR 1612 in Alba on a theft call. The complainant reported that someone had stolen a 5 x 10 trailer from his property. The case has been forwarded to investigators.

Deputies were dispatched to CR 2970 in Mineola at 9:46 p.m. regarding an assault. A woman reported that she had been in a vehicle with an acquaintance when he began to assault her. She managed to get out and ran through the woods to escape him. A witness heard her screams, called 911 on her behalf and waited with her until the deputies arrived. This case has been forwarded to investigators for follow-up.

Deputies responded, at 12:28 a.m. and again at 10:55 p.m. to reports of donkeys out on Highway 80 outside of Mineola. .

There were a half dozen reports of cows out that day, beginning at 1:56 a.m. on Farm-to-Market 2088, CR 4186, FM 779, Highway 154, Highway 69 and FM 2869 at 9:21 p.m.

March 13 - A man reported a possible fraud. There had been charges on four different occasions from Time Warner Cable without his permission. Someone had opened an account with the cable company, but used the complainant’s bank information.

A woman reported someone had intentionally scratched the driver’s side of her vehicle. Repair to the car is estimated to be approximately $500. The investigation is continuing.

Deputies stopped a vehicle at FM 14 and CR 2869 on traffic at approximately 11:50 p.m. The sheriff’s department reported the driver didn’t have his driver’s license or identification. Once the driver was identified, the deputy was notified that he had an outstanding warrant. Charles Kartney James, 33, of Mineola was arrested on a Smith County warrant.

At 12:19 a.m., a donkey was reported out on Highway 80 at FM 2422. There were also two calls of cows out, one on Private Road 6325 in Mineola at 2:39 p.m. and another at 7:26 p.m. on FM 779 in Alba.

March 12 - Deputies were dispatched to West FM 515 in Quitman at 5 p.m. on a burglary of a vehicle call. The complainant reported that a known person had stolen some items from inside of his truck. The investigation is ongoing.

At 5:32 p.m., deputies were dispatched to County Road 3875 in Mineola on a theft call. The reporting party stated that someone had stolen a bicycle valued at $200 from his residence. The investigation is continuing.

At 10:19 a.m., cows were reported out on FM 2966 at 8:41 p.m. on CR 4636 and at 9:30 p.m. on FM 779.

March 11 - Deputies were dispatched to FM 1254 in Mineola at 2:03 p.m. on a criminal trespass call. The complainant reported that she had come home at 9 a.m. to find that someone had kicked in boards that covered a portion of her living room window. Her dog had also been stabbed with a knife so she transported him to the vet for treatment before contacting the sheriff’s office. A neighbor reported hearing a loud commotion coming from her residence the previous night. The investigation is ongoing.

At 2:08 p.m., deputies were dispatched to CR 1885 in Yantis on a dog attack. The complainant reported a neighbor’s two dogs had attacked and killed her dog. Another neighbor stated that these dogs had attacked her dog twice last year, the second time resulting in her dog’s death. The sheriff’s department reminds pet owners that you are responsible for your pet’s actions.

Cows were out at 3:14 p.m. on CR 3940 and at 4:13 p.m. on CR 1600 Alba.

March 10 – A woman reported the theft of her $500 towing hitch from her residence on PR 7864 in Hawkins. Investigators will follow up.

March 9 - Deputies were dispatched to CR 4490 in Winnsboro at 7:14 a.m. on a burglary call. The complainant reported that someone had gone through her daughter’s duffle bag during the night and stolen money out of it. When she woke up on the morning of the 9th, she found her daughter’s wallet on the floor with the money missing. The investigation is continuing.

Deputies were dispatched to State Highway 11 in Winnsboro at 3:57 p.m. on a burglary call. The reporting party discovered that the side door to her house had been kicked in. Nothing appeared to be missing from the house, but she requested extra patrol in the area.

Deputies took a phone report at 5:35 p.m. from an individual who reported a Yeti cooler, valued between $300-$400, stolen from the back of his truck. The truck was parked on CR 2610 in Mineola. The investigators will follow-up on this case.

Deputies were dispatched at 5:53 p.m. to CR 2943 in Alba on a theft call. The reporting party stated that someone had stolen a 6 x 12 trailer from his property. The investigation is continuing.

At 10:57 p.m., deputies observed a vehicle failing to maintain a single lane of travel. Upon conducting a traffic stop, the deputy made contact with the driver who advised that she did not have a driver’s license. Brangie Barton, 38, of Winnsboro was arrested for having no driver’s license.

Deputies responded to reports of cows out starting at 6:55 a.m. on FM 1804 near Mineola, FM 69 near Quitman, FM 2966, and at 12:12 p.m. on Highway 154.
