The Quitman Bulldogs got in a lot of baseball in the final week before Spring Break, going 4-2 for the week.

After blasting North Hopkins 15-2 behind the two-hit pitching of Weston Pence on Tuesday, the Bulldogs went 3-2 while hosting their own tournament.

The tournament’s highlight was an 8-0 over Commerce where Tommy Drinkwine and Landon Richey combined to no-hit the Tigers. Drinkwine struck out eight for the win, and Richey struck out one for the save.

Freshman Davis Watson went 3-3 with Landon Green and Adam Belk each getting a pair of hits. Green had two runs batted in and Belk added one RBI.

Quitman defeated Saltillo 11-1 in the Bulldog’s opening win.

Carson Dickens got the win on the mound with Green coming in for the save. Dickens struck out eight batters. Dickens also had a 2-2 day at the plate. Richey came through with two hits and three RBI.

The Bulldogs fell to Lone Oak 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel. Canin Peppers took the loss but gave up only three hits and had five strikeouts. Green finished the game and recorded four strikeouts. Payton Sapp went 2-3 to lead the hitting for Quitman.

Quitman came back to beat Commerce for a second time 5-3. Watson struck out eight batters and earned the victory. Watson and Justin Matthews led the team offensively.

The final game on Saturday found the Bulldogs on the short end of a 13-1 game to a talented Harleton team.
