Police seek leads on vehicle burglaries

Mineola police are seeking the public’s assistance in a rash of vehicle burglaries, centered in the area west of downtown and north of U.S. 80.

The first report occurred Jan. 16 on W. Buchanan St. when an officer saw a vehicle door left open on W. Buchanan St. It appeared the vehicle had been rummaged through, but the owner did not find anything to be missing.

The following day, a checkbook was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on W. Buchanan. Around the same time a wallet and other items were found on Dubose St. at Sycamore which led to another burglary of an unlocked vehicle on Dubose.

A resident reported someone had gone through her unlocked vehicle on W. Blair St. on Jan. 18. Nothing appeared to be missing.

On Jan. 20 a resident on Harris St. reported catching three males breaking into his vehicle and stealing a wallet.

A wallet and handgun were reported taken from an unlocked vehicle on Pegues St. Jan. 22.
