Mineola senior running back Dawson Pendergrass has been named the top rusher in Texas high school football for the 2022 regular season, according to MaxPreps.

His 36 touchdowns are also the most this season across all classes.

The service listed Pendergrass with 2,797 yards on 290 rushing attempts for a 9.64 yards per carry average with a long of 77 yards to go with 34 rushing touchdowns.

He eclipsed the second-place rusher by 378 yards.

The statistics cover all classes of 11-man football, not just Class 3A in which Pendergrass competes.

Makenzie McGill of Mt. Vernon, a team in Mineola’s district, placed fifth in the regular season with 2,176 yards.

Pendergrass, who has committed to join the Baylor Bears next year, was pressed into extra duty after the injury to quarterback T.J. Moreland.

He is also the second leading scorer in the state with 230 points on 36 touchdowns and seven two-point conversions. Two of his scores came on pass plays.
