Parmer pleads to assault, 20-year term
The case of Timothy Parmer has finally been settled. On Sept. 9 Parmer pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, a second degree felony, and received a 20-year sentence.
Parmer has served 11 years since 2010. The original charge had been attempted capital murder of a police officer which was dismissed.
On March 7, 2010, at about 10:15 p.m. the Wood County Sheriff’s Department had been called to Parmer’s home, three miles east of Mineola on Farm-to-Market Road 1801. It was believed Parmer was holding his wife hostage, and he was also wanted on a felony warrant. Officers from other agencies responded to assist. During the officers’ response, DPS Trooper Larry Vaughn was shot in the face.
Several months after the shooting, Vaughn recuperated and returned to duty.
In 2017, a Wood County jury took only 44 minutes to decide Parmer was guilty. The case had been appealed because Parmer’s counsel had been found ineffective and a new trial was granted on the lesser charge of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
