Panthers prep for fall ball

Alba-Golden students have returned to school this summer for workouts and drills. The sessions have been drawing 20-30 girls and 40-50 boys in high school and 20-30 junior high students.

Athletic director Drew Webster expressed excitement about the prospect of getting to play football this fall, and was encouraged by what he is seeing out of the Panther athletes so far.

They are offering morning and evening sessions, which allows more athletes to participate who otherwise might not be able to attend due to summer jobs and other commitments.

Sports are also alternated by week, with fall sports like volleyball and football swapping out with basketball or spring sports.

Much of the time is spent working on maintaining conditioning so that Alba-Golden is ready to "dominate 2-A" when competition resumes with the Panthers in a new UIL division.
