The Alba-Golden Panthers fought hard Friday night before falling 25-23 to the Winona Wildcats. It was Homecoming 2018 for the Panthers as Macie Pendergrass and Zane Smith were crowned queen and king prior to the game.
The teams squared off in an old fashioned hard hitting football game on both sides of the ball. Winona’s Dakota Pullum threw two touchdown passes with one going to Nic Garrett for 35 yards and the other to Quindarius Johnson covering 43 yards. Pullum would add a one yard scoring run on a quarterback keeper in the fourth quarter. Johnson also had a six yard scoring run. Johnson had 80 yards in 19 carries and added six catches for the Winona offense.
Alba-Golden got another solid game from Zane Smith at quarterback and in the defensive secondary. Jon Michael Chadwick and Boedie Baker both gave the offense opportunities to score and played tough defense for the Panthers.
The Panthers are now 2-3 on the year and 0-2 in district. Alba-Golden travels to Arp to take on an improving Tiger team who has won two district games in a row. Winona will host Harmony in a game between district unbeaten teams.
