Old Settlers Reunion ready to roll

Posted

The 121st Old Settlers Reunion will kick off on Thursday, Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at Governor Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman. There will be lots of activities, music, local artisans and food trucks set up for visitors to enjoy.

Dale “the C” Cummings will kick things off on the side porch of the Honeymoon Cottage (at the front of the park) from 7-9 p.m. Cummings will play a variety of favorites from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

The Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club will be hosting bingo under the pavilion every night beginning at 6:30 p.m. For the kids, inflatables (including a water slide, an obstacle course and a combination bounce house) will be available each night. Also on hand will be the popular game bus, for all the gamers and anyone who wants a break from the inflatables.

The Quitman Chamber will also have a bubble/foam machine each evening for kids to play in along with the park’s splash pad. Hooker Ranch will also be on hand nightly with their horses that kids can pet and have photos taken. All these kids’ activities will be free.

On Saturday, the Quitman Chamber is hosting its 3rd Annual Cornhole tournament on the basketball court. The tournament will begin at 4 p.m. On Saturday evening, the reunion will wrap up with a special concert from local favorites “The Eric George Band.” Katie Wallace will open the concert with an acoustic set at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by The Eric George Band. Everyone is invited to attend this free night of American-roots rock and blues music.

Over a dozen food and drink vendors will be on hand each night, along with several local artisans and vendors selling a variety of items from food to face painting to crocheted items.
