Next Caring and Sharing volunteer meeting Nov. 18

Mineola Caring and Sharing’s next volunteer meeting, hosted by Northside Church, is Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Signup sheets will be available for those wishing to help. Volunteers are still needed to sort food during the week of Dec. 9 and for distribution Dec. 14.

Caring and Sharing provides assistance to needy families with the focus on senior citizens and children of the community during the Christmas holidays. Packages include food, gifts and Christmas stockings. Additionally, senior citizens on the list will be gifted a fire extinguisher.

Fundraising efforts thus far have been successful and are still underway. The annual KMOO radio auction made between $7,000 to $8,000 according to George Assaf, Mineola C&S drive chairman, and Toys for Tots, sponsored by the Mineola Marine Corps League, has donated toys for the event.

The final fundraiser is the Brookshire’s gift card raffle. Volunteers are selling tickets on Sundays and on the Monday and Tuesday after Thanksgiving at Brookshire’s. Three winners, each receiving a $200 gift card, will be drawn on Dec. 7.

Application deadline to receive holiday help is Dec. 2. No applications will be taken after the deadline and there will not be a waiting list. If you or someone you know could benefit from the program, contact Beverly Spike at 903-569-6202 to fill out an application. Participants will receive a letter with the proper time to arrive at Mineola Methodist Ministries Center to pickup their Christmas items.
