Mineola students put hats on for injured classmate
Children at Mineola Primary, Elementary and Middle Schools donned a hat of their choice last Thursday as part of an effort to provide some support for the family of their classmate, kindergartener Isabelle Riley.
Isabelle had suffered a serious accident, off-campus, and is recovering at Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Students were encouraged to wear a hat for the day and to bring one dollar to school.
According to Mineola Primary principal Jolene Ray, the school expects to present the Woodlief family $1,000.
Ray commented, “We try to explain to the young ones that accidents do happen in life, and that what we can do is to show empathy for the family and, in addition to prayer, serve those in need. We hope that this will help ease the burden to the family.”
