Mineola school board prepares for budget

The Mineola school board announced their 2018 fiscal budget planning schedule during last Monday’s board meeting.

The board plans to hold a budget workshop on July 16 at 6 p.m. with a regular board meeting to follow at 7 p.m.

On Aug.20 the board will again hold a budget workshop at 6 p.m. before holding a public meeting to address some of the discussions held. During the public meeting in August the board plans to adopt a proposed tax rate. The rate will be finalized and formally adopted on Aug 30 as the new fiscal year begins.

The final budget numbers are expected to be approved entirely by the end of August. Board member also announced that additional budget workshops may be held as needed for budget on Aug. 23 and Aug. 27.

A public notice is expected to be published Aug. 15 that will reveal the new proposed tax rate.

In other news Superintendent Kim Tunnell announced the resignation of Stacey Whitehead, Kindergarten Teacher; Stacee Sager, WCSESSA Diagnosticianl; and Claire Sims, WCSESSA Speech Pathologist Assistant.

The district also hired Kylie Alexander, Donna Baker, Tyler Broadhurst, Kerry Bullard, Michelle Fabel, Kimberly Howard, Khindra Kent, Melissa Reuvers and Tamara Turner. Each hire is expected to fill positions on the faculty staff for the 2018-2019 school year.
