Mineola school board honors pupils, teachers

Mineola school trustees recognized students of the month at the February board meeting Monday, Feb. 24, as well as the teachers of the year from each campus.

One of those teachers was to be honored at the annual chamber of commerce banquet Tuesday March 4.

Primary - Sylvia Harris, kindergarten; intermediate - Josh Burns, 5th grade science; middle school - Ashley Veach, English language arts; high school - Christine Spofford, special education.

Students of the month were David Swinford and Kamryn Caston for pre-K/Head Start and third graders Andre’ High and Danilyn Osbourne.

Fourth graders recognized from the intermediate school were Brody Lankford and Chylei London.

Seventh graders Avery Ballard and Chris Aldana were honored from middle school.

The high school recognized seniors Javaryon Brumsey and Krissie Barker.

The high school cheer team was recognized for placing 12th in the state competition.

Cheerleaders: Allena Andablo, Kenzi Banks, Addyson Blackwell, Maleighna Fletcher, Avery Geremonte, Maiyah Gonzalez, Colette Harle, Marley Johnson, Jaecey Jones, Myah Joyner, Lyndie Key, Kaitlyn McMahon, Clara Marlow, Haylee Nicholson, Zion Olajide, Briana Palacios, Raylie Peebles, Halle Perkins, Makena Quiambao, Macey Ramirez, Katie Rojas, Ashley Ventura, Kaylee Wilt.

Coaches: Jenny Sheeran, Madi Sheeran, Claire Henderson.

Trustees also heard a presentation from Angela Breitkreutz with Brightcross concerning a donation of framed posters featuring the nation’s motto, “In God We Trust,”with enough copies for every classroom in the district.
