Here we are in February. Groundhog’s Day. Valentine’s Day. President’s Day. It’s a great month.

Please, show the Mineola Memorial Library some love by visiting the local restaurants participating in Restaurant Week Feb. 12-18. See the list of participants in the Monitor, and check out Facebook looking for 2023 Mineola Restaurant Week for more information about participating restaurants. You get hungry and sometimes go out to eat. Support a local business and help raise funds for the library at the same time, what a great combination.

American Girls will be learning about Addie from 1864 and what her life and school might have been like. They will meet Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. This is for girls age 7 and older and their mom. Registration is a must by Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.

The First Tuesday of the month (Feb. 7) brings the Book It Crafting with Books activity at 2 p.m. This is a program for adults re-purposing books that have used up their shelf life (they are worn out). This month’s activity will be making a candle holder. This can be completed in an hour. Stop in and have some fun making this craft.

First Tuesday After School Club will meet Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. and is for children kindergarten to high school. We hope to have a special guest for the K-5 group and if not, we will still have fun.

Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. is Toddler Story Time for children 18 months to 3 years old with their parent or caregiver. Children hear a story, do an activity related to the story and then get to play together developing social skills, and parents get a time to make friends, fellowship and network.

Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. is the Preschool Story Time for children 3-5 years with their parent or caregiver. This group is more structured than the toddlers. They listen to up to three stories, then complete an activity or game or song or maybe all three.

The Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will not be meeting this month but do hope to have a Book Sale Fundraiser on Feb. 18 if the weather permits. It is Texas and that is a little ways out to know what the weather will do.

Harold Taft, weather man for KXAS in DFW many years ago, used to say three days was pushing it for a forecast, and in Texas that seems to be true.

Remember the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
