First month of summer break is almost over. We’ve had wonderful attendance at our Summer Reading events on Wednesday afternoons at 2 p.m. We’ve made several crafts and completed some science experiments that can be replicated at home. Our schools of fish are increasing. Stop by and check out the ceiling in our children’s area to see the fish. Can you find the fighter fish?

East Texas Library Friends book club will meet Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m in the library. We will be discussing “Upstairs at the Whitehouse” by J B West. This is a reflection of an usher at the White House who worked with many first ladies beginning with Eleanor Roosevelt until Pat Nixon moved into the White House. It is a very interesting account. We will also select some new books to add to our future reading list. Please, join us at the library and learn more about this group or visit them online at goodreads.com, then click on community and then East Texas Library Friends. You will need to create an account if you do not have one to enjoy this online book-related site.

We are hoping to have the Chemistry Road Show on June 28 at 1 p.m. in the Mineola Elementary School Gym. Watch our website (mineolalibrary.com) or our Facebook page for details. This is more for children over age 8, but you know your children best and can determine if they would enjoy this event or not. Parents or adult care-givers must attend with their children, and those under 8 should sit next to their adult.

We are very appreciative of the middle school students from a church camp who stopped by to do some weeding for us. They didn’t think they did that much but they really helped us get back on track of keeping the weeds at bay.

We also had high school students from Pace Setters to assist with our Summer Reading program. These young people helped with the different stations and some helped with prep work for a future activity.
