And just like that here comes March. Hopefully that means more consistent weather and not this extreme to extreme thing we’ve been experiencing.

We were lucky enough to recently receive several grants. One is from the Meredith Foundation which makes it possible to do what we do at the library. They are such a generous supporter of the community and we appreciate them very much.

Our next grant came from the American Library Association’s Libraries Transform Communities grant. We actually received that grant in 2021 and used part of the grant to host a conversation about McFarland School. The rest of the grant was used to purchase reading materials to enhance our collection with more diverse covers, authors and stories. These items are located throughout the library and have a label to help them stand out (ALA-LTC 2021-22).

Our last grant was very unexpected and came from the Dorothy Louise Kyler Foundation and was used for the children and young adult collections. We used the grant to replace well-worn copies of very popular children’s books, to add some graphic novels to the line up in the children’s area and to add new titles to the young adult collection. You can spot these items with the label: Dorothy Louise Kyler Foundation Grant 2022.

We have added a new program to the line up. It is the Guitar Group hosted by Haven on the second and fourth Fridays at 1 p.m. for those 18 and older. You bring your guitar and play for an hour or so. Haven will accept up to five participants who have preregistered. You can be a beginner or intermediate player. Call the library and ask Haven for more details, 903-569-2767.

We do not have tax forms this year. We can help you navigate to the IRS website and print what you request. We are not tax professionals so we cannot advise you about which forms you will need. As always, it’s 20 cents a page.

Toddler Time continues on Wednesday mornings at 10 for children 18 months to three years and their parents or adult caregivers. They hear a story or two, sing a song, play and sometimes do a craft or special activity related to the day’s story.

American Girls Historical Reading Club will meet Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m. to meet Samantha and learn about life in 1904. Registration is a must in order to have adequate supplies on hand. Register by March 10 by calling the library to save your spot. This is a program for mothers (or other adult female relative) and their daughters ages 7 and up.

Mineola Memorial Library has received several donations in memory of Jeanene Upton from Thomas Upton, Heather Jordan and Mark Jordan, the Elizabeth Hittson family, Suzanne Moore and Diane Hoffman.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are not only appreciated, they may be tax-deductible.
