We made it through the holidays and into the New Year.

The library is back on its regular schedule. Closed on Sunday and Monday as we have been for years, then open Tuesday to Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we are open until 5:30 p.m., Friday until 5 p.m. and Saturday until 4 p.m. As always, the book and movie drops are on the front porch for your convenience in returning items after hours.

The Mineola Memorial Library Book Club met on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. to discuss Three Weeks with My Brother by Nicholas Sparks and Micah Sparks. This is a non-fiction book about time spent with family. The next selection for this group is The Typewriter’s Tale by Michiel Heyns. Discussion for this selection will be Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.

Other programs have resumed Tuesday with preschool at 11 a.m. and after school at 4 p.m., Wednesday Toddler Time at 10:15 a.m. and Thursday Baby Bounce at 10 a.m. Crochet happens the first Saturday at 1 p.m. and the fourth Saturday at 10 a.m.

With the new year comes the resolution to clean house and clear away clutter. If reducing the number of books in your house is on your list, please remember these points. If they disintegrate in your hands they need to be retired to recycle or compost; if they smell funny or have interesting things growing in them they need to be disposed; if they have resided in your garage/barn and have become nesting material, please throw those in the trash. Otherwise, we would be happy to find a use for them either in the library, for fundraisers or outreach and programs.

The Mineola Memorial Library has received donations from Linda Rhodes, Diane Pitkin and Diana Bankhead. We appreciate these donations. Remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are tax-deductible.
