Here it is … March already! Spring is supposed to be just around the corner. Have you gotten your gardens planted? Do you need inspiration? Check out some of our books about gardening.

Mineola Memorial Library would like to say a great big thank you to the Meredith Foundation for granting our request for the 2019 year. We are so glad to have such an organization in this town and the Meredith Foundation makes many things possible at the Library. So again, thank you, Meredith Foundation!

Friends of the Mineola Memorial Library will meet on Thursday, March 7 at 1 p.m. They are scheduled to visit Grace Community Healthcare and learn more about its role in the community.

Regular programs will not happen during Mineola ISDs Spring Break March 11-15. Seems like everyone takes this opportunity to travel or get caught up on appointments that need to be scheduled. The Library will be open. We will probably have some passive activities set out to try. Passive activities are things that do not require a class or instruction. Passive programming includes coloring pages, games, puzzles, etc.  We will have Toddler Story Time on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. and Bouncing Babies on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Summer Reading theme is a Universe of Stories, and we are already beginning to plan activities around this idea. You will notice a number of volunteers while staff goes to the Johnson Space Center to seek inspiration.

East Texas Library Friends Book Club will meet in the Mineola Memorial Library on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. to discuss The Stranger in the Woods by Michael Finkel. This is a non-fiction account of a man who decided to leave society behind and live on his own. It is a unique story. Please, feel free to join this group and discuss this selection. On another note, this group has been meeting for 10 years now! I couldn’t believe it when I looked back over the reading selections and realized how long we’ve been reading together.

The Mineola Memorial Library Book Club will meet on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. to discuss Sue Monk Kidd’s The Secret Life of Bees. This story is set in South Carolina in 1964 and revolves around a young girl who lost her mother and is raised by a unique group of women beekeepers. You may have seen the movie with Dakota Fanning and Queen Latifah. Read the book and see which you liked better or see how close the movie stayed to the book then join us for a lively discussion.

Another thank you is due to Elizabeth Smith for donating two magazine subscriptions to the Library. We are grateful for these magazines and feel our patrons will enjoy them as well.
