The Mineola High School Anchor Club has placed Giving Trees in several locations to help the Caring & Sharing community toy drive again this Christmas season.
The Giving Trees are filled with ornaments that contain the gender and age (from birth to twelve years old) of a needy child. Interested volunteers for this toy drive may take an ornament from one of the trees, purchase a game or toy with a value of at least $15 appropriate for the child listed, and return the unwrapped gift with the ornament to any of the trees by Monday.
The tree locations are the Mineola High School gym lobby, city hall, the chamber of commerce, Kitchen’s, the Venues on Sycamore, Methodist Ministries Center, First Christian Church, and Brookshire’s.
This is the 20th year the Anchor Club has helped Caring & Sharing with their toy drive. Last year over 250 toys were purchased for needy children through this process. This year over 350 children are on the Caring & Sharing list to receive toys, so the Anchor Club is hoping to increase last year’s number of toys collected.
Anchor Club members will also host a toy drive at the south entrance to WalMart on Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. Toys may be donated to Caring & Sharing at that time, also.
