The Mineola Lady Jackets’ season came to an end at the hand of the Howe Lady Bulldogs after losing two consecutive games on Friday and Saturday.

In game one on Friday, Mineola’s bats were silenced with Howe’s Torrey Stubblefield tossing a no-hitter at the Lady Jackets. The Lady Bulldogs took a 4-0 win at Sunnyvale Friday night. The Lady Jackets played great on defense, but could not get anything going at the plate.

Stubblefield struck out 11 Lady Jacket batters allowing four base runners, all on walks. Mineola’s Anna Westberry only allowed six hits to the potent Lady Bulldog offense while striking out five.

Along the way, the Lady Jackets got several good defensive plays from their defense led by Kiley Banks, Audrey Bush, Lanie Kelley, Claudia Barriga and Alyssa Lankford.

In the first inning, Mineola’s Bush drew a walk, but was stranded when Isabella Tresca popped out to shallow right field. In the second inning, Breanna Wilmoth’s bunt attempt was popped up to the pitcher, but Westberry followed with a walk. Another Mineola bunt attempt was caught in the air by Howe and the throw to first beat Westberry back to the bag for a double play and the third out of the inning. Howe managed to score a run on a sacrifice fly to left field in their half of the fourth inning to lead 1-0.

The pitcher’s duel continued until the bottom of the fifth when Howe did most of their offensive damage. The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs on three singles, a walk and an error. Stubblefield got a pair of RBI on a line drive to centerfield. With two outs, Mineola catcher Tresca held on to a throw from the outfield to make the tag ending the rally and the inning.

Lankford walked with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, but was left on base as a strike-out ended the Mineola threat. The Lady Jackets got a base runner in the top of the seventh inning when Tresca walked and got all the way to third, but the final two Mineola batters struck out and the game ended 4-0.

In game two the Mineola Lady Jackets’ offense bounced back to score four runs in the game. Howe took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Mineola grabbed their first lead of the weekend after scoring 2 runs in the second inning.

However Howe responded immediately tying the game at two. The Jackets then scored another two run in the third inning taking a 4-2 lead. Howe then went on to scored four unanswered runs in the final three innings to grab the 6-4 win

Anna Westberry led Mineola with two hits in game two. Audrey Bush and Alyssa Lankford each had a walk. Westberry also had two RBI as well. Westberry also pitched all seven innings in game two as she threw 17 first-pitch strikes while striking out six batters.

The Lady Jackets ended their season with a 16-3 record including winning the district title.
