The Mineola eighth-grade boys track team took first place in the recent junior high track and field regional meet. Eighth-grade teams from Alba-Golden and Quitman took sixth and seventh, respectively.
The Mineola seventh-grade boys took third place. Quitman took fifth and Alba-Golden finished seventh.
For the eighth-grade girls, Alba-Golden finished second, Mineola placed third and Quitman took fifth. For the seventh-graders, Mineola placed second, followed by Alba-Golden at third and Quitman finished in fifth place.
The Mineola eighth-grade boys who won the gold medal for their events were Dalton Crowson (800, 1600, & 2400); Dawson Pendergrass (high jump, long jump, 4x400 meter relay; TJ Moreland (triple jump, 300 hurdles, 4x400 meter relay); and Cason Davis and Ben Navarro (4x400 meter relay).
The Mineola seventh-grade boys relay teams won two golds and a silver. 4x400 - 1st place (Keke Martin, Alex Reyes, Paul Stanley, Edgar Rubio); 4x200 - 1st place (Martin, Stanley, Rubio, and Matthew Weedman); 4x100 - 2nd place - (Martin, Weedman, Rubio, and Chris Rossie).
For the Mineola eighth-grade girls, winning gold medals were Jocelyn Whitehead, 1st place in discus with a throw of 82 feet 1 inch; and Shylah Kratzmeyer, 1st place in pole vault with a jump of 7 feet, 6 inches.
Taking gold for the seventh-grade girls were Abbie Dobbs, 1st place in the long jump with a jump of 14 feet 9 inches, and Hannah McElroy in the pole vault, clearing 5 feet 6 inches.
