Cold weather and hot chili go together. It’s time for the Mineola Kiwanis 9th annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, March 3 at the Mineola First United Methodist Church Ministries Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tickets are available for $5 from any Kiwanian or at the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, KMOO Radio, Wood County National Bank and Mineola Community Bank. Tickets are also being sold for a chance to win an autographed bass drum head signed by members of the first place UIL 3A Mineola Yellowjacket Sound of the Swarm Band.
Desserts baked by famous local chefs will be auctioned to raise money for the Kiwanis International Eliminate Project. This project saves the lives of mothers and newborns from death by tetanus. Only 15 countries are left to receive elimination status. There will also be a silent auction of items and desserts may be purchased for $1 a slice. The Mineola Kiwanis Club has raised over $40,000 for this project and saved over 22,222 lives.
