MHS’ Rojas named district midfielder of the year
Mineola Yellowjacket junior Nathan Rojas secured selection as the 2019-20 District 14-4A Midfielder of the Year. Rojas was joined by eight teammates in a strong showing for district post-season superlatives.
Striker Omar Galaz and defender Gustavo Sanchez earned selection as first team all-district, while defender Israel Rivera and midfielders Ramiro Mata and Yimi Nunez were named to the second team. Defender Max Lopez, utility player Antonio Ventura and goalkeeper Trevion Sneed captured honorable mention honors.
The Yellowjackets soccer side will be saying farewell to only three seniors: Max Lopez, Pablo Ortega and Israel Rivera.
Head Coach Shelby Turner commented, “It’s an exciting time for Mineola soccer, with a great group of incoming freshmen and the bulk of our starters returning, there are high expectations for next year.”
UIL soccer reclassification has altered the district match-ups for Mineola next season. Yellowjacket district opponents Bullard, Cumberland Academy, Chapel Hill (Tyler) and Van will be joined by Lindale, Gladewater and Grand Saline.
