The Meredith Foundation in Mineola has announced its annual grants to Mineola community organizations, totaling $1,289,974.

Some 16 organizations were awarded funds when the trustees met Feb. 17.

The recipients include the Addie McFarland Foundation, the Animal Protection of East Texas SPCA, the City of Mineola, the Flint and Steel Coalition for improvements to the skate park, Grace Community Healthcare, Lake Country Playhouse/Select Theater, Methodist Children’s Home, Mineola Civic Center, Mineola ISD, Mineola ISDC Education Foundation, Mineola League of the Arts, Mineola Memorial Library, Mineola Senior Citizens Center, Mineola Youth Foundation, Rose Hill Community Food Pantry and the Mineola Community Chest.

Last year the foundation awarded $1,180,428 in grants to 15 organizations.

In 2023 the foundation grants totaled $1,414,394 to 15 organizations with $1,139,515 to 14 organizations in 2022, with $1,031,897 awarded in 2021 and $1,475,378 awarded in 2020.

The foundation was established in 1958 by Mineola banker Harry Meredith and has contributed about $40 million to community non-profit organizations.

The only recipient not in the Mineola area is the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, which Meredith supported and stipulated as an ongoing recipient.
