Marcee signs track scholarship with UA-Little Rock
Quitman’s multi-talented student-athlete Brooklyn Marcee signed a letter of intent to attend NCAA Division I University of Arkansas at Little Rock as a pole-vaulter last Wednesday during a ceremony attended by students, family and friends at the Quitman High School auditorium.
Marcee had been a standout athlete at Quitman as well as in track competition nation-wide.
She competed at the state level in the 300-meter hurdles last spring UT-Austin. She is an accomplished pole-vaulter which is where UA-Little Rock plans to use her talents.
“I chose Little Rock because I felt like it was a place to call home, my home away from home. The team was very nice and I could tell they were hard-working and everybody wants the best for each other which is all you can ask of a team,” Marcee said. “I definitely feel like I will be pushed by my teammates and my coaches as well.”
Marcee plans to major in business management with a minor in finance at the university.
Quitman Athletic Director Shane Webber was supportive of Marcee. “This is a big deal, it’s something this young lady has been dreaming of and this is huge for our athletic program too. The kids can look at Brooklyn and see if you put your mind to achieve a goal, it can be accomplished,” Webber noted. “Little Rock wasn’t the first one to look at her. She talked to people and made some trips and found a program at Little Rock where she was comfortable with the coaches and the university. She will make Quitman proud. She has so many talents, they may use her in other events.”
Marcee placed second in this year’s Texas Women’s Powerlifting state finals and was a first team all-district selection in volleyball. She also ranks academically in the top ten of the 2022 QHS senior class.
