The University Interscholastic League, which oversees athletic, academic and musical competitions for Texas high schools, has canceled all competitions through March 29.

Individual school districts were initially left to determine whether to continue with practices. But Monday all rehearsals and practices were added to the ban.

The suspension was announced late last week and included all events from March 16-29.

The UIL also called off the boys state basketball tournament after the first day of competition last Thursday.

Initial plans were to continue with limited attendance, but eventually the tournament in San Antonio was halted.

The state powerlifting championships have also been called off, which has impacted one Mineola student.

Revised dates have been posted for other spring championships, including soccer.

No change has been scheduled for the other springs sports championships, though some district certifications have been delayed.

Academic and music competition schedules have also been revised.

At the college level the NCAA canceled all its spring championships, including the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments which would have started this week.

Mineola Youth Foundation has closed the ballpark until further notice.
