Dear editor:

After reading your article, I wanted to share some thoughts. Why have a Planning & Zoning Board if the City Council ignores their recommendations?  Did the council have information that was not shared with P&Z? Why would you deny home ownership to 82 families. Was it the floor plans or maybe the lot size that made you turn down this opportunity.

Those are the decisions a prospective home buyer would need to decide. When I was looking for a house to buy, I never thought about asking the city council to help me in my decision-making process. If I did not like it, I did not buy it.

I’m sure MISD could use the tax dollars that go along with homeownership. The Water Department would be gaining 82 new water meters and the water bills that come with them. The banks would provide home loans. Jobs would be available for construction workers, plumbers, electricians, etc.

I think denying this project was extremely short-sighted. The council was elected to do the best for the city and its citizens. Personal opinions should not come into play. I am hoping there will be some way for this decision to be reconsidered and rectified.
