Winners named in MLOTA 2014 art show
The Mineola League of the Arts Show was held this weekend with artists from around the area.
New Mexico artist, Helen Smith's "Aspens" (water media) won Best of Show in the 2014 Mineola League of the Arts Show which was open to the public Friday and Saturday.
Winners were announced Thursday at the League of the Arts building at 200 West Blair Street. Artists, friends and family, and league members gathered to view the paintings and to see the presentation of awards. Deb Miller of Corsicana judged the 149 paintings and sculptures entered by 50 artists.
Besides Smith, top winners were Best of Professional, Paula Hodge, Grand Saline, Oil, "Nadine;" Best of Advanced, Linda Price, Hideway, Oil, "Winter Wonderland; " Best of Amateur, Laura Cottrell, Forney, Pastels, "Reflection of an Orange;" Best of Junior, Brailey Brown, Flint, Watercolor, "World of Fish;" Best of Sculpture, Jo Ellen West, Quitman, Clay, "No Vacancy." These winners won monetary awards or one of the 23 gifts donated by art supply companies. All entrants in the show had the opportunity to win one of the donated gifts.
Other winners included The Meredith Foundation Choice, Reba Taylor, Lindale, Oil/Opaque Acrylic, "Rustic Autumn Barn" and Mayor's Choice, Alyssa Ramsey, Lindale, Acrylic, "Honey Bear."
Blue ribbon winners for the show were Hodge, Grand Saline; Helen Smith, Hawkins / New Mexico; Sue Berlino, Alba; Monique Dorsey, Tyler; Pat Mapes, Mineola; Jo Ellen West, Quitman; Vicki Steed, Hawkins; Sherry Hensley, Hideaway; Barbara Braun, Lindale; Cottrell, Forney; Charles Ellenburg, Avinger; Ramsey, Lindale and Scott Brown, Flint.
Red ribbon winners were Joyce Wilson, Hideaway; Smith, Hawkins / New Mexico; Berlino, Alba; e Dorsey, Tyler; Richard Braun, Lindale; Steed, Hawkins; Dolores Wright, Sulphur Springs; Barbara Braun, Lindale; Ellenburg, Avinger and Brown, Flint; West, Quitman.
Yellow ribbon winners were Linda Price, Hideaway; Carole Beasley, Bullard; Smith, Hawkins / New Mexico; Mapes, Mineola; Richard Braun, Lindale; Steed, Hawkins; Wright, Sulphur Springs; Betty Napier, Mineola and Ramsey, Lindale; West, Quitman.
Honorable mentions went to Beasley, Bullard; Judy Dumas, Hideaway; Helen Voss, Lindale; Shirley McCormick, Lindale; Steed, Hawkins; Wright, Sulphur Springs; Betty McCauley, Jacksonville; Hensley, Hideaway; Marlys Overbeck, Dallas; Chloe Woolford, Lindale and Barbara Rhodes, Mineola.
A league spokesperson expressed their gratitude to the Meredith Foundation, the City of Mineola, the people of East Texas and the Texas Commission on the Arts for their continued support of the arts. (The show as partially funded by the TCA.)
