“They really want to get back to state,” commented Mineola cross country coach Shelby Turner when describing his girls team. The Mineola Lady Jackets cross country team took their first official steps to return to Austin by earning the district championship trophy last weekend in Mount Pleasant.

The five-girl team all finished within the top 11 places at the District 13 meet. Their performance captured the district crown and propelled the team to the regional meet.

Lady Jackets Kapri Riley, Keiley Riley, Juliana Stanley, Riley Weekly and Hannah Zoch compose the girls team.

Turner described how the girls team is pushing hard to better their performance at last year’s state meet.  “We had a great run this morning; the girls are really challenging each other,” he offered.

In addition to the girls team success at the district meet, Mineola’s Cris Alejo from the boys team also qualified for regionals.

“We have a really young boys team,” Turner noted, as he described a bright future for the program.

The boys varsity team took the third place trophy while the junior high girls team captured second place.

The regional meet will take place Nov. 7 at the Jesse Owens Athletic Complex off Interstate 20 in Dallas.
