Lady Jackets, Panthers in tourney action
Alba-Golden and Mineola volleyball sides spent the balance of last weekend at area tournaments: Alba-Golden in Union Grove and Mineola at Tyler. The results for each side showed great promise for the upcoming season.
The Lady Panthers split their games at Union Grove. After falling in the initial match last Thursday to Queen City, the squad bounced back with wins over Jefferson and Union Grove. They finished second in their pool and advanced to the winners’ bracket.
The tourney ended for the Lady Panthers after being bested by Harmony and Liberty Eylau in second-round action.
The Lady Jackets also split their matches at the Tyler tournament. They recorded victories over Jacksonville, West Rusk, Gladewater and Cumberland Academy. Losses to Gilmer, Tyler, Mabank and Rusk ended the tourney for Mineola.
Both sides played competitive volleyball and gave solid indications of what is in store for the 2022 campaigns.
As Alba-Golden Head Coach Jamie Webster stated, “I have no doubt we will be right where we need to be come time for our first district game. This bunch of girls will be a lot of fun to watch.”
The same sentiment can certainly be shared regarding the Lady Jackets.
It should be a great season for local fans.
